Where it is used

  • Pole-top secondary distribution where multiple service drops originate
  • Joint-use poles separating telecom (top) from electric secondary (lower rack)
  • Multi-tenant residential service from a single transformer
  • Streetlight feeder distribution along a roadway
  • Industrial / commercial parking lot lighting circuits

Installation sequence

  1. Position the rack at the secondary elevation per drawing (typ. 3–5 ft below primary crossarm).
  2. Through-bore the pole at 9/16 in (M12) or 11/16 in (M16) for the mounting bolt.
  3. Install the bracket with a square washer on the back side.
  4. Thread spool insulators onto each pre-tapped pin.
  5. Route the secondary conductors around each spool and clamp per project standard.

Buyer’s Guide: Secondary Rack Extension Bracket

1. When Do You Need a Secondary Rack Extension Bracket?

A secondary rack extension bracket supports multiple secondary conductors at the customer-service elevation on a distribution pole. The 2-spool variant carries a typical residential service (120/240 V split-phase: two hots + neutral on the pole’s primary side, with the third spool on a separate bracket below if needed). The 3-spool handles three-phase 208/480 V wye services. The 4-spool covers four-wire systems with separate neutral and groundedequipment conductors.

Each spool position is pre-tapped 5/8 inch for an ANSI-standard porcelain spool insulator — we supply matching spools at order time. The 100 mm pin spacing matches industry-standard tie-down geometry; if your project specifies different spacing (often 75 mm for compact installations or 125 mm for heavy-conductor commercial), we punch to a custom pattern at the same tooling lead time.

2. How to Choose the Right Size

Pick by service-drop conductor count.

  • RAX-SREB-2 — standard 120/240 V residential split-phase (most-ordered)
  • RAX-SREB-3 — three-phase 208/480 V commercial
  • RAX-SREB-4 — four-wire systems, multi-tenant + separate neutral

Custom configurations (5/6/7 spool positions, non-standard spacing) available with 5–7 day tooling, 200-piece minimum.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the spool insulators included?
No — the bracket ships with pre-tapped pins; insulators sold separately. We stock matching porcelain spools (5/8 in standard) and polymer alternatives; specify at order.
What conductor range fits the spool position?
Standard 5/8 in spool insulators handle #6 to 4/0 AWG copper or aluminum. For larger conductors (250 kcmil+), upgrade to 3/4 in spool / pin pattern — available as a custom configuration.
Can I mount this on a wood pole?
Yes — lag screws (1/2 in for SREB-2/-3, 5/8 in for SREB-4) are acceptable substitutes for through-bolts on wood poles. Specify wood vs steel/concrete at order so we ship the correct hardware.
