Where it is used

The dead-end grip is a preformed helical termination that anchors a distribution conductor, service drop or aerial cable at the pole. Its helical legs wrap onto the conductor and grip by distributed tension — terminating the line at full strength with no bolts, no compression and no special tools.

Installation sequence

  1. Select the colour-coded grip for the conductor size.
  2. Mark the conductor at the crossover reference point.
  3. Wrap each preformed leg onto the conductor.
  4. Snap the legs home so the helix fully seats.
  5. Connect the dead-end eye to the bracket / clevis / hook.

Buyer’s Guide: Dead End Grip

1. What a Dead-End Grip Does

A dead-end grip terminates a conductor or service drop at the pole by wrapping helical preformed legs onto it. The grip holds by distributed wrap tension along its length — the same proven helical principle as a guy grip, applied to the current-carrying conductor.

2. Full RTS, Tool-Free

A correctly matched dead-end grip holds 100% of the conductor RTS and applies entirely by hand — no torque wrench, no hydraulic press. That makes distribution dead-ending fast and removes the over-/under-tightening risk of bolted clamps.

3. Distribution, Service, False & Coaxial Types

The family covers the plain distribution dead-end, the lighter service / drop grip, the false dead-end (loop without full termination) and coaxial-cable grips. Pick the variant for the conductor or cable you are terminating.

4. Colour Coding by Size

Each grip is colour-coded to a conductor diameter band (5–16 mm). Match the colour so the legs wrap and grip correctly; the wrong size will not develop full strength.

5. Aluminium-Clad vs Galvanized Legs

Aluminium-clad legs for aluminium conductors avoid bimetallic wear; galvanized-steel legs are used for steel messenger and earthwire. Match the leg material to what you terminate.

6. Pairing With Pole Hardware

The grip eye takes a service bracket, clevis, secondary clamp or hook. Order with the matching bracket and clevis so the distribution termination is complete.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does a dead-end grip hold without bolts?
Helical preformed legs wrap onto the conductor; distributed wrap tension grips it at 100% RTS — the same principle as a guy grip, applied to the conductor.
Dead-end grip vs preformed tension clamp?
The dead-end grip is the lighter distribution / service termination (single preform); the preformed tension clamp adds an inner reinforcing rod set for transmission conductors. Choose by voltage and conductor.
What variants are there?
Distribution, service / drop, false dead-end and coaxial grips. Pick the variant for your conductor or cable.
Why colour coding?
Each grip is matched to a conductor size by colour; an oversize won't grip, an undersize won't wrap on. Always match the colour.
Can I reuse one?
No — preformed grips are single-use. Fit a new one if removed.
