Application & Installation
Where it is used
The double-end bolt is threaded at both ends with a plain shank in the middle. It passes through the pole and is nutted on each face, clamping a bracket or fitting on either side without the long full-length thread of a double-arming bolt — used where hardware mounts back-to-back through the pole.
Installation sequence
- Select the length so both threaded ends clear the pole faces.
- Bore the pole for the plain shank.
- Pass the bolt through; the plain shank sits in the bore.
- Run a nut onto each threaded end against its fitting.
- Tighten both ends; leave threads showing past each nut.
Buyer’s Guide: Double End Bolt
1. What a Double-End Bolt Is
A double-end bolt is threaded at both ends with a plain centre shank. It mounts hardware on both faces of the pole at once — each end nutted against its own fitting — while the plain shank passes cleanly through the bore.
2. Double-End vs Double-Arming
A double-arming bolt is threaded its full length for arms that clamp at varying points; a double-end bolt is threaded only at the ends, for two fittings on the two pole faces. Use the double-end where the threading only needs to be at the faces.
3. Plain Centre Shank
The unthreaded centre bears in the bore and is stronger and cleaner than a threaded section in the same place. It also stops the bolt from being driven too far in either direction.
4. Thread & Length to ANSI C135.1
ANSI C135.1 in 5/8 in and 3/4 in, with each end threaded ~3–4 in. Size the length so both threaded ends emerge past the pole faces with room for nut and washer.
5. Galvanizing
Hot-dip galvanized to ASTM A-153, nuts tapped to run over the zinc, for long through-pole service.
6. Pairing
Used with brackets, clamps and bands that mount on opposite faces. Order the matching washers and nuts for each end.
