Where it is used

The anchoring clamp dead-ends a low-voltage aerial bundled cable (LV-ABC) at terminal and angle poles by gripping the insulated neutral messenger of the bundle. It anchors the run without stripping the cable sheath, holding the bundle's tension while the phase cores remain insulated.

Installation sequence

  1. Separate the insulated messenger from the bundle at the pole.
  2. Seat the messenger in the clamp wedge / bail.
  3. Close the clamp so the wedge self-grips under tension.
  4. Hook the bail to the pole bracket / dead-end hook.
  5. Dress the phase cores and connect via piercing connectors.

Buyer’s Guide: Anchoring Clamp

1. What an Anchoring Clamp Does

An anchoring clamp (ABC dead-end / tension clamp) terminates a low-voltage aerial bundled cable by gripping its insulated neutral messenger. It is the LV-ABC equivalent of a conductor dead-end — but it never contacts bare metal, so the cable stays insulated and weatherproof at the termination.

2. Wedge / Self-Gripping Action

The clamp uses a wedge or sprung bail that grips harder as the cable pulls — self-tightening under load. This means fast, tool-light installation and a grip that cannot loosen while the span is in tension.

3. Sizing by Messenger Cross-Section

Select by the messenger conductor size (25–95 mm²), not the overall bundle. The wedge must match the messenger so it grips the load-bearing element correctly; holding runs 10–16 kN across the range.

4. GRP vs Aluminium Body

Glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) bodies are light, fully insulating and UV-stabilised for residential ABC; aluminium bodies suit heavier 4-core bundles and higher holding. Pick by bundle size and exposure.

5. Keeping the Sheath Intact

Because the clamp grips the messenger and not the phase cores, the cable sheath is never cut at the dead-end — preserving insulation and avoiding the water ingress that a stripped termination invites.

6. Pairing With ABC Hardware

The anchoring clamp works with pole brackets, dead-end hooks, suspension clamps and insulation-piercing connectors to build a complete LV-ABC network. Order the matching bracket and connectors for the bundle.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does an anchoring clamp grip?
The insulated neutral messenger of an LV-ABC bundle — never the bare phase cores. It dead-ends the run while keeping the cable insulated.
How do I size it?
By the messenger cross-section (25–95 mm²), not the overall bundle. The wedge must match the load-bearing messenger; holding runs 10–16 kN.
Does it need tools or sheath stripping?
No — the wedge self-grips under tension and the sheath stays intact. Fast, tool-light installation that cannot loosen while the span is loaded.
GRP or aluminium body?
GRP for light, fully-insulating residential ABC; aluminium for heavier 4-core bundles and higher holding. Pick by bundle size and exposure.
What else do I need for an ABC termination?
Pole brackets / dead-end hooks, suspension clamps for tangents, and insulation-piercing connectors for the phase taps. We supply the full LV-ABC set.
