Where it is used

The Y-clevis eye joins a clevis-jaw fitting to an eye connection — for example linking a yoke-plate or clamp clevis to a shackle, anchor eye, or the oval eye of another fitting. It is common in suspension and dead-end insulator strings where the two adjacent parts present a jaw and an eye.

Installation sequence

  1. Pick the ZH size so its failing load meets the string rating.
  2. Pin the clevis tongue to the mating jaw; fit the stainless cotter.
  3. Pass the eye over the mating bolt, shackle pin or eye.
  4. Fit and split the connecting pin / cotter.
  5. Verify both joints are locked before tensioning.

1. What a Y-Clevis Eye Is

A Y-clevis eye is a forged link with a clevis tongue on one end and a round eye on the other. It is the transition piece between a clevis-jaw fitting and an eye / bolt / shackle connection — one of the most common adapters in a string.

2. Sizing by Failing Load

The ZH series runs 70 kN to 160 kN, covering distribution and light transmission. Choose the rating to meet the string's mechanical class with margin for weather loading.

3. Clevis End vs Eye End

The clevis end takes a 16 or 20 mm pin to the mating jaw; the eye end drops over a bolt, shackle pin or another eye. Order by the fittings on both sides so the pin and eye sizes line up.

4. Forged Steel & Galvanizing

Drop-forged carbon steel gives the impact strength the pin and eye need; hot-dip galvanizing to ISO 1461 gives 30+ year corrosion life. The cotter is stainless so the clevis can be opened for maintenance.

5. Y-Clevis Eye vs Ball Eye

A ball eye carries a ball that mates with a socket insulator; a Y-clevis eye carries a clevis tongue that pins to a jaw. They both end in an eye but connect to different things — pick by what the other end must grab.

6. Where It Fits the String

Use it to step a clevis string down to an eye fitting — into anchor shackles, strain-clamp eyes or guy hardware. Order alongside the jaw and eye fittings it bridges.
