Application & Installation
Where it is used
The insulated wedge clamp (NXJ series) strain-anchors an insulated aerial aluminium-core conductor at a dead-end without removing the insulation. An insulating plastic wedge inside the aluminium shell grips the insulated conductor and self-tightens under tension, terminating the line while keeping the conductor fully insulated.
Installation sequence
- Select the NXJ size for the insulated conductor cross-section.
- Open the shell and seat the insulated conductor on the wedge.
- Close the shell so the wedge grips the conductor.
- Connect the clamp eye to the dead-end string / bracket.
- Confirm the grip self-tightens under span tension.

1. What an Insulated Wedge Clamp Is
The NXJ insulated wedge clamp is a strain (dead-end) clamp for aerial insulated aluminium-core wire. Its insulating plastic wedge grips the conductor inside an aluminium shell — anchoring the line without stripping the insulation off the aluminium core.
2. No Insulation Stripping
Because the wedge grips over the insulation, crews never expose the aluminium core at the dead-end. This keeps the termination insulated and weatherproof and speeds installation on aerial insulated networks.
3. Self-Gripping Wedge
The wedge core tightens as the conductor pulls, so holding rises with tension and cannot loosen in service. Holding runs 10–20 kN across the NXJ-1 to NXJ-4 range.
4. Voltage & Conductor Range
NXJ-1/2 suit 0.6/1 kV aerial insulated lines (35–70 mm²); NXJ-3/4 cover 10–20 kV insulated conductors (70–240 mm²). Match the clamp to the conductor cross-section and system voltage.
5. Anti-Oxidation Shell
The shell is anti-oxidation high-strength aluminium alloy, and the wedge is reinforced insulating plastic — both chosen to last on exposed aerial insulated lines without corroding or cracking.
