Application & Installation
Where it is used
The thimble eye bolt combines an anchor bolt with a built-in thimble, so guy strand or a guy grip seats directly in a curved, grooved eye. The thimble radius protects the strand from the sharp bearing of a plain eye, making it the standard anchor for down-guys at the crossarm or pole.
Installation sequence
- Select straight or angle type and the thread / length.
- Bore the member for the shank.
- Pass the shank through; orient the thimble to the guy line.
- Secure with the square washer, nut and lock nut.
- Seat the guy grip / strand in the thimble groove.

A thimble eye bolt is an anchor bolt whose eye is shaped as a thimble — a curved, grooved seat for guy strand. It lets the guy or guy grip bear on a generous radius instead of the sharp edge of a plain eye, protecting the strand at the anchor.
2. Straight vs Angle
The straight type points the thimble in line with the bolt for guys leaving square to the pole; the angle type cants the thimble so the guy can leave at an angle without side-loading the bolt. Pick by the guy lead direction.
3. Why the Thimble Matters
A guy strand bent over a thin eye edge concentrates stress and can fail early. The thimble groove spreads the bearing over a radius, so the strand keeps its strength at the anchor — important on tensioned down-guys.
4. ANSI Thread & Length
Follows ANSI C135.4 / C135.80 in 5/8 in and 3/4 in threads. Length is set by the member plus hardware; size so the lock nut fully engages.
5. Load & Galvanizing
