Application & Installation
Where it is used
The drop-wire clamp anchors a telecom or low-voltage service drop at the customer building and at the pole. A wedge or sprung bail grips the figure-8 or round drop wire and self-tightens under tension, terminating the service connection quickly without splitting the sheath.
Installation sequence
- Choose the clamp for the drop-wire type and size.
- Loop the drop wire through the clamp wedge / bail.
- Let the wedge self-grip as the wire pulls.
- Hook the bail to the building / pole bracket.
- Tension the drop to the required sag.

1. What a Drop-Wire Clamp Does
A drop-wire clamp terminates the service drop — the wire from the pole to the customer building — at both ends. It grips the drop wire and anchors it to a bracket, holding the span tension so the service stays taut and clear.
2. Wedge / Self-Gripping Bail
A wedge or sprung bail grips harder as the wire pulls, so the clamp self-tightens and needs no tools. This makes service connections fast and keeps the grip secure under wind and ice.
3. Figure-8 vs Round Drop
Figure-8 (self-supporting messenger) drop wire is gripped on its messenger web; round drop is gripped directly. Select the clamp type to match the drop wire you run.
4. Sizing & Holding
Holding runs 1.5–3.5 kN — ample for telecom and LV service drops. Match the clamp to the wire size so the wedge engages the load-bearing element.
5. Keeping the Sheath Intact
The clamp grips without cutting the sheath, so the service stays weatherproof at the termination. No stripping means no water ingress at the customer end.
