Where it is used

The insulator string is a complete, factory-assembled set of discs plus all the string hardware — ball / socket clevises, yoke plate and the suspension or tension clamp — supplied ready to hang on the tower. Specified by voltage, M&E class and configuration, it removes the field assembly and matching of individual parts.

Installation sequence

  1. Specify voltage, M&E class and configuration (single / V / tension).
  2. Confirm the disc material and end-hardware coupling.
  3. Receive the string factory-assembled and tested.
  4. Hang the structure end on the tower attachment.
  5. Lay the conductor into the clamp at the string end.

Buyer’s Guide: Insulator String

1. What an Insulator String Is

An insulator string is the whole assembly that insulates and supports the conductor at a structure: the disc stack plus every coupling fitting and the conductor clamp. Supplying it as one tested unit removes the work and error of assembling discs, clevises, yokes and clamps in the field.

2. Configurations

Single suspension for tangents; V-strings to restrain swing on long or angled spans; double-tension for dead-ends. The configuration sets the hardware — a yoke plate for V and double, simple clevises for single.

3. Voltage & M&E

Disc count comes from the system voltage and pollution; M&E class (52-3 / 52-5 / 52-8) from the line tension. We assemble the right count and class so the string meets both the electrical and mechanical duty.

4. Disc Material

Porcelain or toughened glass discs, or a composite long-rod where weight and breakage matter. Specify the type; the coupling and hardware stay the same.

5. Factory Assembly & Test

Strings are assembled and the couplings checked in the factory, so crews hang a complete, verified unit rather than building it aloft — faster, safer and consistent.

6. What We Include

Discs, ball / socket clevises, yoke plate (V / tension), arcing horns or corona ring where specified, and the suspension or tension clamp. Tell us the structure and conductor and we build the string.

Frequently Asked Questions

What comes in an insulator string?
The disc stack plus all hardware — ball / socket clevises, yoke plate, corona ring / arcing horns where needed, and the conductor clamp — factory-assembled and tested.
What configurations?
Single suspension for tangents, V-strings for swing restraint, double-tension for dead-ends. The config sets the hardware.
How is it specified?
By system voltage and pollution (disc count) and line tension (M&E class 52-3/52-5/52-8), plus disc material and configuration.
Porcelain, glass or composite?
Any — specify by weight, breakage and inspection needs. The coupling and hardware are the same.
Why buy it assembled?
Crews hang one tested unit instead of building it aloft from loose parts — faster, safer and consistent.
