Application & Installation
Where it is used
The hex bolt and nut is the general-purpose structural fastener for steel towers, brackets, equipment frames and fittings that are not covered by the square-head pole-line standard. Supplied in grade 4.8 and high-strength 8.8 steel, hot-dip galvanized, with the matching hex nut and washers.
Installation sequence
- Select the size and grade for the structural load.
- Pass the bolt through the cleared holes with a flat washer.
- Fit a flat and spring washer under the nut.
- Run the hex nut up and torque to the grade spec.
- Check the joint after the first load cycle.

1. What the Hex Bolt & Nut Covers
The hex bolt and nut is the standard structural fastener for the steelwork around a line — towers, equipment frames, bracket-to-steel connections and anything specified to ISO metric or imperial hex rather than the square-head pole-line standard.
2. Grade 4.8 vs 8.8
Grade 4.8 suits general, lower-load fixing; grade 8.8 is high-strength for structural connections that carry real load. Choose the grade from the connection design — do not substitute a lower grade in a structural joint.
3. Metric & Imperial
Supplied M12–M24 and 1/2–3/4 in to match the structure's drawing. Full thread for short bolts, part thread where a plain grip length is wanted in shear.
4. Washers & Locking
Flat washers spread the bearing; spring (or nyloc / lock) washers resist loosening under vibration. Specify the washer set with the bolt for the joint.
5. Galvanizing
Hot-dip galvanized to ASTM A-153, nut tapped to run over the zinc. For severe environments, stainless options are available on request.
6. Where It Fits
On steel towers, substation frames, equipment brackets and any non-pole-line steel connection. Order with the matching nuts and washers.
