What Are Formed Wire / Preformed Line Products?
Formed wire products are helically coiled wires that grip conductors, guy wires, and optical cables without crushing or damaging them. The helix shape creates a long contact zone that distributes tension uniformly. They are widely used in overhead power transmission, distribution, and fiber optic lines worldwide.
Types of Formed Wire Products
Dead End Grips
Dead end grips (also called preformed tension grips) anchor conductors and cables at dead-end poles and towers. They are available for ACSR, AAC, AAAC, ADSS, OPGW, and coaxial cable. Raxsteel dead ends are manufactured to match the lay direction and pitch of the conductor for a full helical grip.
Armour Rods
Armour rods wrap around the conductor at suspension clamp positions to protect against fatigue wear and abrasion. They are required by IEC 61284 for ACSR conductors at suspension points. Raxsteel aluminium alloy armour rods are matched to conductor diameter and available for all standard conductor sizes.
Insulator Ties
Insulator ties (top tie, side tie, spool tie) secure conductors to pin and post insulators using helical wire elements. Preformed ties are far faster to install than traditional hand-tied wire and eliminate the risk of nicks on the conductor.
International Standards & Certifications
All Raxsteel formed wire products are designed and tested to IEC 61284 and ANSI/IEEE standards. We provide full test reports, dimensional data sheets, and material certificates with each order.
How to Order Formed Wire Products
To order preformed fittings, provide the conductor type (e.g. ACSR Hawk), diameter, and rated tensile strength (RTS). For ADSS/OPGW, provide the cable OD and span length. Raxsteel engineers will confirm the correct product and issue a drawing for approval before production.
