Where it is used

The line guard is a short preformed aluminium armor that wraps the conductor where it is most exposed to wear — at tie points, suspension supports and the ends of armor rods. It takes the abrasion and minor arc damage that would otherwise attack the bare conductor, and is easily replaced when worn.

Installation sequence

  1. Select the guard set for the conductor diameter.
  2. Centre the guard on the wear / contact point.
  3. Wrap each preformed rod over the conductor.
  4. Snap the rods home so the guard encloses the conductor.
  5. Fit the tie or clamp over the guarded section.

1. What a Line Guard Does

A line guard is a short preformed armor that protects the conductor at a localised wear point — where it sits in a tie, against a clamp, or at the end of an armor-rod set. The guard wears instead of the conductor and can be replaced in service.

2. Abrasion and Arc Protection

At contact points the conductor chafes against hardware and can arc; both erode strands. The aluminium guard adds a sacrificial layer that takes the wear and spreads contact, extending conductor life.

3. Sizing to the Conductor

Guards are preformed to a conductor band (8–19 mm). Match the size so the rods grip snugly and the guard does not slide along the conductor.

4. Aluminium Alloy

Made of aluminium alloy to match the conductor — no bimetallic wear, same thermal behaviour, conductive at the contact. It is the same family of product as armor rods, just shorter and for spot protection.

5. Line Guard vs Armor Rod

Armor rods protect the whole suspension length on long spans; the line guard is a shorter guard for a specific wear or tie point. Use armor rods for span vibration, line guards for localised contact.

6. Where It Fits

At tie points, spool / insulator contacts and armor-rod ends. Order with the matching tie or clamp it works under.
