Where it is used

The forged eye bolt provides a strong, closed-eye anchor point on a crossarm or pole for guys, insulator strings, dead-end hardware and shackles. Drop-forged in one piece, the eye has no weld to open under shock or sustained load — the reason it is specified at dead-ends and guy attachments.

Installation sequence

  1. Select the thread and length for the member and load.
  2. Bore the crossarm / pole for the bolt shank.
  3. Pass the shank through and seat the eye to the load direction.
  4. Secure with the square washer, nut and lock nut.
  5. Connect the guy / clevis / shackle to the eye.

1. What a Forged Eye Bolt Is

A forged eye bolt is a through-bolt with a closed, drop-forged eye on one end. The eye gives a hard anchor point for a guy grip, clevis, shackle or insulator string; the threaded shank passes through the crossarm or pole and is nutted on the far side.

2. Why Forged, Not Welded

A drop-forged eye is one continuous grain of steel — there is no weld seam to crack under shock load, vibration or years of sustained guy tension. For dead-ends and guy attachments, where failure drops the line, the forged eye is the specified choice.

3. Thread & Length to ANSI C135.4

Eye bolts follow ANSI C135.4 — 5/8 in and 3/4 in threads, in lengths matched to the crossarm or pole thickness plus the hardware stack. Size the length so 2–3 threads show past the lock nut.

4. Load Rating

Minimum tensile runs from ~6,800 kg (5/8 in) to 9,000 kg+ (3/4 in). Match the bolt to the guy or string load with the standard safety factor; the eye, shank and nut are all rated as an assembly.

5. Galvanizing

Hot-dip galvanized to ASTM A-153 for 30+ year corrosion life. The threads are cut before galvanizing and the nuts tapped oversize so they run freely over the zinc coat.

6. Hardware & Pairing

Supplied with a square washer, square nut and lock nut. Pairs with guy grips, thimble-clevises, shackles and insulator clevises — order the mating fitting for the eye size.
