Application & Installation
Where it is used
The preformed tension clamp dead-ends the conductor with helical preformed legs over a structural reinforcing rod set. It grips along the conductor lay to hold full RTS — a tool-free alternative to bolt-type and compression dead-ends, common on ACSR, AAC and OPGW termination points.
Installation sequence
- Select the colour-coded set for the conductor size.
- Apply the reinforcing rods over the conductor at the dead-end.
- Wrap the outer tension legs over the reinforcing rods.
- Snap all legs home so the helix seats fully.
- Connect the dead-end eye to the string / structure.
Buyer’s Guide: Preformed Tension Clamp
1. What a Preformed Tension Clamp Is
A preformed tension clamp is a helical dead-end: an inner structural reinforcing rod set plus outer tension legs that wrap onto the conductor. It terminates the conductor at full RTS by distributed grip, with no bolts to torque or dies to press.
2. Full RTS Holding
Correctly matched, it holds 100% of the conductor RTS. The reinforcing rods spread the grip and protect the conductor surface, so the long helical contact reaches full strength without crushing strands.
3. Preformed vs Bolt / Compression
Preformed installs tool-free and cannot over- or under-tension; bolt-type needs torque control and compression needs a press and dies. For OPGW and medium conductors the preformed clamp is fast and gentle on the cable.
4. Colour Coding by Conductor
Each set is colour-coded to a conductor diameter band (8–24.5 mm). Pick by colour so the legs wrap and grip correctly — the wrong size will not develop full strength.
5. Conductor vs Earthwire Legs
Aluminium-clad legs for aluminium conductors avoid bimetallic wear; galvanized-steel legs are used for earthwire / OPGW. Match the leg material to what you are terminating.
6. Pairing With the Dead-End String
The clamp eye connects to the dead-end string via a clevis or thimble. Order with the matching string fittings and yoke for the complete termination.
