Where it is used

The B-type cable suspension screw suspends a cable clamp where a through-bolt cannot be used — its coarse wood-screw base drives directly into a wood pole or arm, presenting a suspension eye for the clamp. It hangs aerial cable from the structure at tangent points without rear access.

Installation sequence

  1. Select the eye and base size for the cable load.
  2. Drill a pilot hole sized for the screw base.
  3. Drive the screw into the pole / arm until the eye seats.
  4. Hang the suspension clamp from the eye.
  5. Lay the cable in the clamp and dress the span.

1. What a B-Cable Suspension Screw Is

A B-type cable suspension screw is a suspension eye on a coarse wood-screw base. It threads into a wood pole or arm to hang a cable clamp where there is no rear access for a through-bolt — the screw-in counterpart of the A-type suspension bolt.

2. When to Use the Screw Type

Use the B-type where you cannot drill through or reach the far face of the member — a thick arm, a pole face, or a retrofit. Where a through-bolt is possible the A-type carries more load.

3. Pilot Hole & Holding

Drill the pilot to the screw root diameter so the base bites without splitting and keeps full pull-out strength. The holding comes from the wood thread, so sound timber and the right pilot are essential.

4. Eye & Strength

5/8 in and 3/4 in eyes carry the suspension clamp; minimum tensile ~4,500–6,000 kg covers the suspended cable load. Lower than the through-bolt A-type, as wood pull-out governs.

5. Galvanizing

Hot-dip galvanized to ASTM A-153 so the screw lasts in the wet timber without corroding.

6. Pairing
