Where it is used

The downlead clamp fixes the OPGW or earthwire downlead to the tower steel, guiding the cable from the top fitting down the tower leg to the ground or joint box. A cushioned grip holds the cable at intervals so wind cannot whip it against the steel, protecting the jacket and the fibres inside.

Installation sequence

  1. Plan the downlead route down the tower leg.
  2. Fit a clamp at each spacing interval (typically 1.5–3 m).
  3. Seat the cable in the cushioned grip.
  4. Bolt or clip the clamp to the tower member.
  5. Dress the cable so it runs clear of edges.

1. What a Downlead Clamp Does
