Where it is used
The lip washer has a turned-up lip on one edge that bears against the bolt shank or a fitting edge, resisting the nut backing off under vibration. It locks the nut position on clamps, brackets and bands that see conductor movement and wind — without needing a separate lock nut.
Installation sequence
- Select the lip washer for the bolt size.
- Place it under the nut with the lip toward the fitting edge.
- Run the nut up so the lip engages.
- Tighten so the lip bites and resists rotation.
- Confirm the lip holds the nut position.

1. What a Lip Washer Does
A lip washer is a flat washer with one edge bent up into a lip. The lip catches against the bolt shank or the edge of the fitting, mechanically resisting the nut turning loose — a simple, reliable lock under vibration.
2. Why It Locks
Vibration from wind and conductor movement can walk a plain nut loose. The lip gives the nut something to bind against, so it stays put without the extra height and cost of a second lock nut.
3. Where It Is Used
On clamps, brackets, bands and any bolted fitting exposed to conductor motion or wind. Especially useful where re-tightening access is poor and a loose nut would go unnoticed.
4. Sizing to the Bolt
Match the hole to the bolt (1/2, 5/8, 3/4 in). The lip is sized to engage the fitting edge — orient it toward the edge it should bind against.
5. Galvanizing
Hot-dip galvanized to ASTM A-153 to match the bolt and resist corrosion that would otherwise seize the locking action.
6. Pairing
Used with machine bolts on clamps and brackets. Order with the bolts; combine with a flat washer where extra bearing is also needed.
