Application & Installation
Where it is used
The oval eye bolt is a through-bolt whose forged eye is elongated, giving wider clearance and letting the connected fitting swing and align under changing load direction. It is used at guy and dead-end points where a round eye would bind the shackle or where two fittings share the eye.
Installation sequence
- Select the thread and length for the member and load.
- Bore the crossarm / pole for the shank.
- Pass the shank through; orient the oval to the load.
- Secure with the square washer, nut and lock nut.
- Connect the shackle / clevis / two fittings to the eye.
Buyer’s Guide: Oval Eye Bolt
1. What an Oval Eye Bolt Is
An oval eye bolt is a forged through-bolt with an elongated eye. The longer opening accepts a wider shackle, lets the connected hardware align as the load direction changes, and can take two fittings sharing the eye — useful at junction and guy points.
2. Oval vs Round Eye
A round eye holds a single fitting snugly; an oval eye gives swing clearance and width. Choose oval where the shackle is wide, where the load angle varies, or where two fittings must share one anchor.
3. ANSI C135.4 Thread & Length
Like all our eye bolts it follows ANSI C135.4 in 5/8 in and 3/4 in threads. Length is set by the member thickness plus the hardware stack; size so the lock nut fully engages.
4. Load Rating
Minimum tensile ~6,800 kg (5/8 in) to 9,000 kg+ (3/4 in), matched to the guy or string load. The oval eye is forged to the same strength as the shank.
5. Forged & Galvanized
Drop-forged for one-piece strength, hot-dip galvanized to ASTM A-153. No weld seam in the eye to open under load.
6. Hardware
Supplied with square washer, square nut and lock nut, and pairs with shackles, clevises and guy hardware sized to the oval eye.
