Application & Installation

Where it is used

The clevis-clevis link (Y-clevis clevis) joins two clevis-jaw fittings back to back in an insulator or guy string — for instance coupling a yoke plate clevis to a suspension-clamp clevis. It is the straight, in-line link used wherever two tongue-and-pin fittings must connect directly.

Installation sequence

  1. Pick the Z size so its failing load meets the string rating.
  2. Align one tongue with the first mating clevis; pin and cotter it.
  3. Align the second tongue with the next fitting; pin and cotter.
  4. Confirm pin sizes (16 / 20 mm) match both jaws.
  5. Spread both cotters before tensioning.

Buyer’s Guide: Y-Clevis Clevis

1. What a Clevis-Clevis Link Is

A Y-clevis clevis (clevis-clevis link, Z type) presents a clevis tongue at each end. It connects two clevis-jaw fittings in a straight line — the simplest way to couple two tongue-and-pin parts that cannot mate directly.

2. Sizing by Failing Load

The Z series runs 70 kN (Z-7) to 300 kN (Z-30). Choose the size whose failing load meets or exceeds the string's mechanical rating, with margin for ice and wind on dead-ends.

3. Matching the Pin to the Jaw

Each end is a clevis pin joint — 16 mm on lighter classes, 20 mm and up on heavier ones. The pin must suit both the link and the fitting it joins, so order by the mating jaws, not just the load.

4. Forged vs Cast

Below 45 kN the link can be cast with full ductility; from 45 kN up it is drop-forged carbon steel for grain flow and impact strength at the pin holes. Everything we ship at 70 kN and above is forged.

5. Stainless Cotters for Serviceability

Both pins are held by stainless-steel cotters so the link can be opened years later for maintenance without seizing. The body is hot-dip galvanized to ISO 1461 for 30+ year corrosion life.

6. Where It Sits in the String

Use it as the in-line coupler between yoke plate and clamp, or to extend a clevis-ended string. Order it together with the clevis fittings it joins so the jaws and pins all match.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a clevis-clevis link connect?
Two clevis-jaw fittings, in line. It has a clevis tongue at each end and pins to both fittings — used to couple or extend tongue-and-pin parts in a string.
How is it different from a U clevis?
A U clevis has jaws; this link has tongues. Use the clevis-clevis link when the fittings you join both present jaws, and a U clevis when they present tongues.
How do I choose the size?
By failing load (Z-7 = 70 kN to Z-30 = 300 kN) and by the pin size of the jaws you are joining (16 or 20 mm). Match or exceed the string rating.
Are the cotter pins stainless?
Yes — galvanized forged body with stainless cotters, so the joint stays serviceable for maintenance years later.
Can you supply the matching fittings?
Yes — clevis-clevis links plus yoke plates, U clevis, ball / socket clevis and clamps in matching pin sizes. Send your string layout for a quote.
